In this scene, the director uses a long shot to portray David’s character and to build on our idea of what is happening. David, one of our main protagonists, is shown as isolated, lonely and dark.

The opening two minutes display a scene of David on his own and solitary, it then cuts to a montage of the political side of Davids life and his campaign for New York senate. It suggests to us that he prefers to keep private life and political life seperate and that maybe there is more to him than we see. As a congressman he’s enjoying life at full speed, constantly doing media interviews, speeches and is the main focus of every news source and station. He is shown as a passionate for his career and wants to make a difference in New York by promoting himself towards a younger audience.
